Women’s Month Spotlight: Nazeema Sonday (Delicious Biscuits)
It’s National Women’s Month in South Africa and we’d like to shine the spotlight on the sensational Hotel Verde supplier who crafted handmade, branded treats for all the ladies of the hotel this month, and also supplies us with hand-baked treats throughout the rest of the year.
Meet the hard-working baking queen Nazeema Sonday!
The entrepreneurial brains and dedicated hands behind Capetonian SME Delicious Biscuits, she left her job as a cashier in 2012 in order to take up baking as a means of supporting her family.
“Baking is my passion,” she says, and it shows in the astonishing variety of biscuits she produces. Traditional favourites such as Shortbread and Choc Chip are part of the range, but she also puts a tasty spin on them with biscuits like Oat & Coconut and Coffee Dream. It’s these mouthwatering treats that are then individually wrapped and served on our tea trays at Hotel Verde.
It all started when a certain Mr. Yaseen Johnson, a lecturer at Northlink College, gifted Hotel Verde GM Caron Van Rooyen with a few packets of Delicious Biscuits. She called Nazeema, asking her if she felt up to the challenge to supply the hotel in its entirety, and the rest (as they say) is history!
Through the support of Hotel Verde and subsequent investment by owner and founder Mario Delicio, Nazeema’s business has grown reasonably over the last few years.
“Though I haven’t met Mr Delicio yet, I’m grateful that he’s given me the opportunity to supply the hotel with biscuits. The hotel has also given us the opportunity to send our biscuits overseas via their patrons,” she adds gratefully.
